Gia Claybrooks was born into a military family in the beautiful city of Honolulu, Hawaii. As an only child, she fondly claims she has never met a stranger and still has several friends spread all across the country. While being a nomad for several years, she spent most of her childhood in her parent’s hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, which she lovingly calls home.

Gia is a very proud graduate of Howard University where she received her Bachelor’s in Political Science. Before joining Camp Hope and the UrbanPromise family, Gia served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Guatemala, a community organizer in Charlotte, and received her Masters in Education from Vanderbilt University concentrating in Learning, Diversity, and Urban Studies in 2020.

Gia believes she is called to create community bonds amongst those who are disenfranchised. She joined UrbanPromise to help youth of color heal from the spirit murdering and trauma that is caused every day in their schools and in the world at large. With God at the center of everything she does, Gia hopes to show students that they and their families deserve to thrive and they can fight for the change they want to see.
